About Us
The American Immigrant Policy Portal is an all-volunteer project established in 2010.
Members of the Portal team were dedicated to the goal of making objective research on immigration policy more widely known to both public officials and the broader population.
Since our formation, the Portal has enjoyed the support of a number of organizations, including Diversity Dynamics, The Immigrant Learning Center, Maurice Belanger Associates, and Rutgers University.
Our primary goal has been to collect, summarize and disseminate the latest research on immigration policy questions.
The Coalition does not take formal positions on specific issues. Rather, we share research that may allow people concerned about immigration to make intelligent policy decisions.
According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), there are approximately 304 million international migrants worldwide. This represents about 3.7 percent of the global population.
Although one could argue whether there is too much or too little immigration, the real question, according to the IOM, is quite different. “International migration is an established feature of contemporary economic, social and political life, driven by unstoppable forces of globalization and demography…the real question is how to manage migration for the benefit of all.”
In 2026, we were pleased to create a formal alliance between the Portal and the New Jersey Business Immigration Coalition. Recognizing the value of our work, the Coalition has uploaded many of our research summaries to its website and has taken positions on many immigration policy issues based on this research. The Coalition has also helped to finance recent modernization of our website.
